In a truncated version of the Academy's R-Day, 232 cadet candidates reported on July 23, 2012, to the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) to begin a yearlong program in military science and remedial academics. A cadre of 75 swiftly moved the cadet candidates, nearly 30 percent of whom come from prior enlisted service and 20 percent of whom are female, through the three stages (reception, processing, and drill) of R-Day. By the time the Class of 2013 took their oath, the cadet candidates knew how to stand at attention, salute, execute an about face, and march.
